Residential Care Home Visit

On Monday 7th September 2009, 16th Ramadhaan, children from Sakina and Aun & Muhammad group visited a residential care home which is located within a few yards of Husaini Islamic Centre, Peterborough. As ambassadors of the mosque the young children, who were accompanied by representatives from the Husaini Youth group, presented a bouquet of flowers, a fruit basket and served delicious cakes to the elderly.

It was a very enriching experience for both the youngsters and the residents as some of the young children were fasting and eagerly served the cakes with smiles and loving words. The residents were overcome with love and appreciated the neighbourly gesture by the mosque.

Donations for the above were collected by the children themselves during one of their meetings in the month of Ramadhaan.

Facilitator of the group, Sukainabai Manji said: ‘It was very heart warming to see our children doing a neighbourly act as well as engaging in an interfaith activity.’

Fizzah and Muzzammil Jivraj, active members of the group said:

‘We took flowers and snacks for all the residents, and had some photos taken with the residents, we met some very pleasant people, one such was Keith who made some amazing portraits and kindly did some of the children, others gave sweets for all the children. We had a great time and we learnt that we should care for elderly people.’

Latifah and Imran Ramji, who are also very active members of the group, said:

“When we went to visit the elderly we felt very excited and could not wait to see them. At the end we gave them a fruit bowl with all different types of fruit like juicy kiwi, crunchy apples, soft bananas and lots more. We also gave them a bunch of flowers for letting us come to see them. All of the elderly had different personalities like some of them were brilliant at drawing whilst some were good at telling jokes. When we had finished we went back to mosque to go home. On the way back we felt very good because we had done something that has given lots of sawabs.”
