“O men and women! Draws near unto you the blessed month, overflowing with advantages, merciful, ready to put up your sins of omission and commission to Allah for obtaining His forgiveness.”

(Extract from the Holy Prophet SAW's sermon at the arrival of the month of Ramadhan )

The Holy month of Ramadhan is approaching and it is the month of fasting, of prayer, of purity and of seeking forgiveness. One of its sacred nights, the Night of Qadr, surpasses the equivalent of a thousand months and we are encouraged to seek Allah SWT's forgiveness for all of our sins. In fact it is said that on the Holy Night of Qadr it is announced in the heavens; 'Who is there among mankind to seek tonight the Forgiveness and Grace of the Lord and have it?'

Allah SWT is the Most Generous and Forgiving and we are told never to despair of his forgiveness. In various Al-Hadith Al-Qudsi, Allah SWT encourages us to ask His forgiveness;
“Seek pardon from Me, and I will forgive you”; “There is no intercession like forgiveness”; “Seek piety in repentance”; “I am the Forgiver, so seek forgiveness from Me.”

The Holy Qur'an is also abundant with verses encouraging us to seek forgiveness:

“Say: O My servants who have acted extravagantly against their own souls, do not despair of the mercy of Allah, surely Allah forgives the faults altogether, surely He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53)

Imam Muhammad Baqir AS has said; “He who repents of his sins is as the one who has not any (burden of) sin.”  Click here to read more...
